Today marks 365 days since I changed my life!
I'm so happy and grateful with where I am today. When I take the time to reflect and think back to my "former life" I'm still kind of shocked by how different my life looks now. My former life involved me waking up every day to live a life I knew was not aligned with my purpose. My former life was not aligned with my authentic self. It's been a journey to get to where I am today but I can promise you I wouldn't have it any other way. I can honestly say that I have not fully reached where I want to be however, when I look at how far I have come, in all aspects of my life, I am so humbled and feel so blessed because I know I couldn't have done it without Him. Without God. So yes, I am grateful for everything that I have been able to accomplish in this last year because God has allowed me to carry out a purposeful life that is aligned with my authentic self! I couldn't be happier!
What was so bad about my former life?
Prior to living my authentic life, I worked in the field of Human Resources. I had a successful career that I worked very hard for. I was and still am very grateful for the job and career I had. It was a respectable field, career, and provided me with stability and security. I also worked very hard for it. Not only did I get my Masters and become a certified HR professional, but I also worked extremely hard to climb the corporate ladder and become one of the youngest, hispanic, female HR Directors in my organization. You would think with all that effort, education, status, and money that I'd be happy with my life, but unfortunately the truth was that I wasn't. I was far from happy.
Not only was I unhappy but I was stressed too. I became unhealthy and little by little I developed unhealthy habits. I took on more work that became unfulfilling to me, and I found myself spending less and less time on my personal life including my friends, family, and loved ones.
It got to the point where I would dread going to work, and even cry from unhappiness. No one knew unless I opened up and told them. I was able to hide it very well until one day I just couldn't. I developed high blood pressure, started getting premature gray hair, and developed an eye twitch, which I have to admit, was very embarrassing when it got going and twitching all over the place.
My body began to give me physical signs that something wasn't right. I wasn't right. My life wasn't right. What I did for a living was no longer right for me, and I ultimately needed to make a change. But the question was how?
How was I going to change my life?
I had to figure out how I was going to make this major life change, and not only that...I had to figure out what I was going to change my life to become. The last thing I wanted to do was start all over and create another version of my life that I wasn't happy with again. When I finally decided to change my life it was at the end of 2014. I went through so many emotions. I was confused, thinking to myself "How did I get here?" Then I was angry, "Why the hell did I go through all of that work, school, time, and effort to want to change everything once I got to where I wanted to be?!" Finally I gained some perspective and realized something positive. I finally thought to myself, "How awesome is it that I get to create the life I want?!?!"
I was finally able to gain this positive perspective and mindset shift after pausing to reflect and pray.
Taking time to pause, reflect, and pray became a powerful step.
When I took time to do this I gained clarity on how I wanted to move forward. I began to remember who I really was as a person. I realized that somewhere along the way my reason for making some of the choices I had in life were no longer important to me. I no longer cared the most about my title or the money. I knew that I needed to make a change that was more aligned with who I was authentically and aligned with my purpose in life.
I also knew people were going to think I was crazy for pursuing my purpose but it didn't matter to me. I have never really been a person to base my decisions off the thought of others so I wasn't going to start that now. I did however take that time to tell my family, starting off with my mother and father. Of course they were concerned for me, which any family member would be after hearing their loved one is going to make a change as drastic as changing their career, but for me it was bigger than that. What helped me realize the importance of what I was doing was a question my mother asked me (thank you mommy). She asked me, "What is your purpose in life?"
I'm normally never at a loss for words, but at that moment I was! I never really thought about what my purpose was in life. After thinking of how to answer and not finding the words, I shared with my mom that I didn't know but I was going to figure it out. So I did.
Discovering my purpose helped me live an authentic life.
When you finally realize your life's purpose it's as if everything in life stops and your solely focused on that... living and breathing your life's purpose. Completely changing my career wasn't easy but I knew it needed to be done. I knew I needed to quit my HR Director job, walk away from making the salary I was making, step out of my comfort zone, and have faith.
People thought I was crazy. Some people tried to talk me out of it, or reason with me. Others talked behind my back and weren't supportive. Then there were a good number of people who wanted me to succeed, but didn't have a clue how I would. The most important thing was that I had faith in God and myself.
I knew with everything in me that God wouldn't have put the need on my heart to pursue my purpose if it wasn't meant for me. I realized that my purpose in life was to help people create the life they wanted and I was going to do that through my own business being a Life Coach, Motivational Speaker, and Teacher. When I realized my purpose, everything from that point forward became clear. I began to take steps and decisions to align me with my authentic self so ultimately I could live an authentic life and purposeful life!
What does living an authentic life mean?
When we are asked “who we are,” we tend to define ourselves by our jobs, careers, relationships, roles, life situations, health situations, or other external factors. It's important to go deeper than your external life situations to your inner core, or your authentic self, when defining who you really are. The authentic self is the essence of who you are internally, regardless of changing and evolving factors external to you.
Many people never develop a deep awareness of their authentic selves and therefore make choices that do not honor who they are at their core. The more you align your life with what truly makes you who you are, you begin to live life as your authentic self. Everything you do in life should reflect who you really are as a person.
You will begin to attract people and opportunities that are aligned with your authentic self, who you truly are and the
person you are becoming. You will also see the opposite happening, and you will begin to see people leave your life who are not aligned with your authentic self. You may even begin to remove people from your life who are not aligned with who you are. Also, opportunities that are not aligned with your authentic self will be easily identifiable and you will begin to experience clarity in declining the opportunities that are not meant for you.
It is a powerful moment when you begin living in your truth which is what your authentic self will empower you to do! This is what I like to call your ability to Discover Your Power!
Living authentically helps you live happily!
My life has completely changed. I have Discovered My Power to be my authentic self and create the life I want. That is why I do what I do everyday. I coach, motivate, and teach people that they too can create a life of happiness and abundance. I am dedicated to spending my life helping people overcome their obstacles, and to know what it feels like to live a life they love. I thank God every for the
opportunity to do what I do. I encourage you to do the same.
Today I have coaching clients that I am blessed to work with, who I partner with, and help every chance I get. I have helped a number of my clients obtain jobs, interview successfully,
change their jobs, and even change their careers! I have also had the opportunity to give motivational talks to help inspire others. Now, I choose to spend my free time advocating and fundraising for a charitable cause I am passionate about
which is helping people living with lupus, and have even raised a significant amount of money to donate to these causes through my annual fundraise the Discover Your Power Lupus Bowl.
On a personal note I have more time to dedicate to my health and wellness. So, not only do I encourage others to live a healthy life but I am able to lead by example. Since making steps to change my life my eye twitching has ceased (unless I have too much coffee...haha), and my blood pressure has gone down. I am also proud to say that in the past 8 months I have lost over 20 lbs. Not only do I dedicate time to my health and wellness, but I also make the time to eat better, get more rest, and exercise consistently (way more than ever before).
These are just a couple of ways my life has changed, but please know there are so many other positive ways my life has changed as well. My faith in God and relationship with Him has grown stronger than ever before. He constantly reaffirms me that I am following the path I am meant to be on. I know this is because I am living my life doing what I was meant to do, helping others. When you live an authentic life, a life aligned with who you truly are and are meant to be, the universe will show you that you are on the right path. Doors will open for you, and blessings and opportunities will come. This is how I know this life, my authentic life, is truly meant for me.
I encourage you to live an authentic life.
When you do, you will experience a life that you are excited to wake up for. A life you will want to work hard for but not mind the work it takes at all. You will experience success and abundance because this new life you created was meant
I guarantee living an authentic life will lead you to your happiness. In my experience as a Coach, HR leader and professional for over 13 years, I have seen the value of taking the steps it takes to create the life you want.
